BOSTON GUITARFEST 2009 A GREAT SUCCESS! This years Boston guitar fest VIVA MEXICO! was the best yet. Eliot Fisk (Artistic Director New England Conservatory) and Robert Ward ( Administrative Director Northeastern University) put in a lot of hard work and hours towards this years theme VIVA MEXICO! and it certainly showed. Boston GuitarFest 2009 featured 3 generations of Mexican virtuosos : Alfonso Moreno, the father of modern Mexican guitar playing and founder of the world famous Orquesta de Guitarras; Alfredo Sanchez, known internationally for his ground breaking guitar transcriptions of Bach’s key works; and the young Cecilio Perera, star member of Eliot Fisk’s class at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and first prize winner of last year’s Boston GuitarFest adult level competition. Established in 1914, ASCAP was the first and leading U.S. Performing Rights Organization (PRO) representing the worlds largest repertory totaling over 8.5 million copyrighted musical works of every style and genre from more than 320,000 songwriters, composers and music publisher members. Guitars not Guns "Guitars not Guns" is a non-profit organization that provides guitars and lessons to foster kids, at risk youth and other deserving children in a classroom setting with qualified teachers. No child is turned away for lack of funds. Their goal is to Help stop violence in schools and on the streets by providing a music program for at risk teens and other deserving children. They beleive in diverting as many children as possible from the self-destructive behaviors of drugs, alcohol, crime connected to gang activity. William Patterson University William Patterson University Guitarfest 2008 is set for Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 and will feature brilliant guitarist Jason Vieaux in concert and master class. Mr. Vieaux is a winner of a top prize in the prestigious Naumburg International Competition and has produced two recordings that have sold over 40,000 copies worldwide. He was awarded first prize at the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition and is the Department Chair of the guitar department at the Cleveland Institute of Music. The William Patterson University guitar department is understandably thrilled about Mr. Vieaux's appearance at the school. January 3rd 2008
